Hiring a House Cleaner in Columbus: Frequently Asked Questions

Hiring a cleaner in Columbus comes down to eight things. How far ahead to book, and how the cleaners get in. What is and is not included, and how the quote is built. Who is screened before they enter your home, and which products get used. Whether your address is covered, and what happens if a visit goes wrong. All eight are answered below.

How to use this page

Every answer here stands on its own. Jump to a section, read it, and stop. The questions run in the order they tend to come up. Booking first, then access, then scope. After that: price, trust, products, coverage, and what comes next.

When an answer is about Rejuv Cleaning, we say so. The rest is about hiring anyone in this market. Those parts hold whether or not you ever call us. That includes the parts that would talk you out of a booking. We meant to do that. This page is here to answer questions, not to dodge them.

Why we don't publish prices

Because a posted price would be wrong for most people reading it. And a wrong price wastes your time before it wastes ours.

Take two three-bedroom homes. One has not been cleaned in four years. The other has been cleaned every two weeks for two years. They are not the same job, and no single price fits both.

A posted price would have to fit every home on the list. No one number can do that. So we scope first, then quote.

What we promise instead is the process. You send a few answers. A written flat quote comes back, most within one business day once the office has enough property and scope information. A flat price that holds for the home you describe. Send those answers, or give them to us on the phone. Booking the visit is the next step, and we find a time that works for you and for the cleaning professional. If what we find is not what was described, the office explains the difference and issues a revised written quote before additional paid work. How pricing works lays out all eleven things behind that number, and shows which ones you control.

What Rejuv Cleaning commits to

A promise is worth more in writing. Here are ours.

What we commit toWhat that means in practiceWhat it does not cover
A written quote, most within one business dayMost residential quotes are sent within one business day after the Rejuv Cleaning office receives enough information to evaluate the property and requested scopeUnusual properties may need photos first. The visit date is agreed separately, once you have the quote
Flat-rate, not hourlyThe written quote fixes the price for the approved scope. The number is fixed before anyone unlocks your door, and it holds for the home you describeA change in scope you ask for, or a home that is not as it was described — the office explains the difference and issues a revised written quote before additional paid work is performed
Most residential homes quoted without a walkthroughMost residential quotes are prepared from the answers you send, with no sales visitCommercial buildings, which are quoted from a site walk and a written specification
Screened cleaning professionalsEveryone assigned to a Rejuv job completes the required onboarding and screening process, and is required to maintain their own applicable insurance coverageContractors are not covered under Rejuv Cleaning's policy. Responsibility and coverage are determined according to the facts, applicable agreements, law and policy terms
A briefed cleaning professional, not a guaranteed personScheduling depends on availability. If you have a preference, tell the office and it is taken into account when the schedule is builtThe same cleaning professional is not guaranteed on every visit. Whoever is assigned works from your home's notes
We tell you about damageWhen damage is reported to us, we pass it on to you rather than leave you to find itPre-existing damage, which we photograph and flag rather than repair
We return to address missed, in-scope workTell us within 24 hours by phone, text, email or the customer portal. We will review the concern and arrange a reasonable re-clean of the affected, agreed-scope areas at no additional chargeWork outside the agreed scope, damage, wear, staining or conditions that cleaning cannot reasonably correct
No long-term residential commitmentContact us before the next scheduled visit if you need to pause, change frequency or stop serviceLate changes, lockouts and cancellations are handled under the booking terms provided with the quote. Commercial janitorial agreements start with a three to six month term and thirty days' notice

What Rejuv Cleaning promises on every home booking, and the limit on each. Ask any firm you are weighing up for the same list.

Booking and scheduling

How far in advance do I need to book a first cleaning?

Most residential quotes are sent within one business day after the office receives enough property and scope information. Booking the visit is the next step. We agree a time that works for you and for the cleaning professional. If a closing or a lease end sets your date, say so when you ask, and the office confirms what the schedule can accommodate.

How long does it take to get a quote back?

Most residential quotes are sent within one business day after the office receives enough property and scope information. Send us your bedroom count and bathroom count. Add how long it has been since a cleaner was last in. Tell us whether you have pets, and whether a finished basement is in scope. You can say all of that on the phone just as easily. Odd jobs may need photos of the kitchen and baths. That is still much faster than setting up a walkthrough.

Can I skip a visit or pause my plan while traveling?

Yes. Recurring service has no long-term residential commitment. Contact us before the next scheduled visit if you need to pause, change frequency or stop service. Late changes, lockouts and cancellations are handled under the booking terms provided with the quote. Recurring-service changes, skipped visits and travel-related pauses are subject to availability and the approved quote or agreement. Contact the Rejuv Cleaning office in advance to confirm scheduling. Long gaps are the one snag. After a couple of months the next visit brings more soil, and we scope it to match.

What happens if my regular cleaning day falls on a holiday?

We reach out before the date and offer the nearest work day on either side, so nothing is skipped in silence. If neither one works, the visit moves to the next cycle. Holiday and peak-period availability depends on the confirmed schedule. Request dates early; service is not reserved until the Rejuv Cleaning office confirms it.

Can I book a one-time clean before hosting and then stop?

Yes. A customer may request a one-time clean before deciding whether recurring service fits. The approved quote controls the scope, price and scheduling for each service. You are not tied to a plan. We take a deposit when you book, and it comes off the price of the clean. One thing to know before you compare prices. A one-time clean carries the biggest scope per visit of any option, because nothing was kept up before it.

Access, keys and security

Is it safe to give a cleaning company a key to your house?

It is, with the right controls. Ask how keys are stored, and what happens the day service ends. Ours are held with no address on the tag. Yours is given back or destroyed whenever you ask. Ask any firm to walk you through its key process before you hand one over.

Can cleaners use a smart lock code or garage keypad instead of a key?

Yes, and it is the option we prefer. A code of its own, one you can change or kill yourself, keeps control with you. It also leaves a time-stamped record of every entry. Give the team its own code rather than sharing a family one. Tell us before you change it, so nobody arrives to a locked door.

What happens if the alarm goes off while no one is home?

You give us the disarm code and the monitoring company's passphrase, and we check both before the first visit. If an alarm still trips, the team calls you first and the monitoring company second. They stay on site until it is sorted out. If an alarm trips because of something we did, we tell you straight away and work with you and your monitoring company to sort it out.

Do I need to be home while the cleaners are there?

No. You may be home or away during service. Provide access instructions and tell the office about occupied rooms, home offices, children, pets or timing constraints so the office can confirm what can be accommodated. The door is locked when the team leaves.

What's included and what isn't

What is not included in a standard house cleaning?

Laundry, dishes, windows above reach, and the inside of cabinets and drawers. Pet waste is also excluded. Active mold remediation, biohazard remediation and hazardous-material work are not ordinary cleaning, and unsafe ladder work is not offered as ordinary cleaning. An inside-oven wipe-down is Deep Clean scope. Refrigerator-interior cleaning is not part of Standard Clean and is included only when listed in the approved quote or applicable move-in or move-out scope. Ask any firm for this list in writing before you book, us included.

Do house cleaners do laundry and dishes?

Not on a standard visit. Both eat into the scope you booked for cleaning. A load of laundry outlasts the whole visit. Hand-washing dishes, unloading a full dishwasher and managing large quantities of dishes are not included in a standard clean. When an empty dishwasher is available, a reasonable number of dishes may be loaded so the sink can be cleaned. Otherwise, dishes may be moved carefully to a nearby safe area so the sink can be cleaned. If laundry really matters to you, say so at quoting and it can be scoped on purpose.

Do you clean inside the refrigerator and oven on a standard visit?

No. An inside-oven wipe-down is Deep Clean scope. Refrigerator-interior cleaning is not part of Standard Clean and is included only when listed in the approved quote or applicable move-in or move-out scope. Appliance exteriors remain Standard Clean scope.

Do I need to tidy up before the cleaners arrive?

Clear flat surfaces if you can, and nothing more. A counter has to be empty before it can be cleaned, so clearing turns straight into cleaning. Do not pre-clean — it helps nobody. If the tidying is the part you cannot face, say so and we will scope the clearing in.

Does a deep clean include inside cabinets and drawers?

Only if you ask, and only if the cabinets are empty. A deep clean covers the outside of cabinets, their fronts and their tops. The inside belongs to move-in and move-out cleaning scope, where the home is empty and being checked. Emptying a cabinet is your job, not ours. We cannot clean a shelf we have to unload first.

Pricing and quotes

Why don't cleaning companies publish their prices online?

We can only answer for us. A posted price cannot be right for every home. Take a home cleaned for the first time in four years. Now take the same home, cleaned every two weeks for two years. Two different jobs, and not the same scope. We commit to the process instead. You send a few answers, and most residential quotes are sent within one business day after the office receives enough property and scope information.

Can I get a cleaning quote without someone coming to my house?

Yes. Most residential homes do not require an in-person walkthrough. Start with bedroom count, bathroom count, and how long since a cleaner was last in. Then pets, whether a finished basement is in scope, and how often you want service. Type them in the form or give them on the phone, whichever suits you. Odd homes may need a few photos, which is quicker than setting up a walkthrough.

Will my quote change after the cleaners see the house in person?

No, as long as the home matches what you told us. The written quote fixes the price for the approved scope. The number changes only if the scope does. That means work you add, or a home that is not as it was described. Either way, the office explains the difference and issues a revised written quote before additional paid work is performed, not after.

Can a cleaning company raise the price mid-job if it takes longer?

Not under a flat quote. Carrying that risk is the whole reason flat rates exist. Hourly bills for time, so a longer job means a bigger bill. That is the difference between the two models. So ask any firm what happens if the job runs long. Then get that answer in writing before anyone starts work.

Can I lower my quote by doing some of the work myself?

Sometimes, and we will tell you which parts are worth it. Clearing surfaces and floors really does cut scope, because clearing and cleaning are two jobs. Pre-cleaning does not. Having us come more often cuts the scope of each visit. That works more surely than any prep you can do the night before.

Trust, insurance and staff

How do I check what insurance applies to my cleaning job?

Ask a cleaning provider what insurance documentation applies to the work, and request current documents where appropriate. Check the named insured, the policy dates, the coverage type, and the entity or person actually performing the service. Rejuv can explain what documentation applies to your booking before work begins.

Are house cleaners background checked before they enter my home?

Ask any firm how the people entering your home are screened, who runs that screening, and whether it covers everyone who might come in, including anyone covering a shift. Rejuv Cleaning works with screened independent cleaning professionals. Ask any firm to answer that head on.

What happens if something in my home gets broken during a cleaning?

When a cleaner reports damage to us, we pass it on to you rather than leave you to find it. Real accidents happen in lived-in homes. Rejuv Cleaning works with screened independent cleaning professionals. Each contractor is required to maintain their own applicable insurance coverage and provide current documentation before accepting assignments. Contractors are not covered under Rejuv Cleaning's insurance policy. Report any damage or incident to Rejuv promptly so it can be documented and forwarded to the contractor and any applicable insurer. Receiving a report is not an admission of liability. Responsibility and coverage are determined according to the facts, applicable agreements, law and policy terms. Our terms of service set this out in full, so you can read it before you ever need it. Tell us at quoting about anything fragile or one of a kind. We will work around it, not near it.

Will the same person clean my house every visit?

Scheduling depends on availability, so we do not guarantee the same cleaning professional on every visit. Assignments are made by the office, and whoever is assigned works from your home's notes rather than arriving with no context. If you have a preference, tell the office and it is taken into account when the schedule is built.

What are the red flags that a cleaning company is not legitimate?

Ask for six things, from us and from anyone else. A written scope. A clear answer on what insurance documentation applies and how current coverage is verified. A quote given after questions about your home, not before. A business name you can look up. A way to pay that is not cash only. And a bid you can line up against the others you have. Anything missing from that list is worth asking about.

Products, pets and safety

Do I need to provide cleaning supplies or a vacuum?

No. Our teams bring products, cloths, vacuums and machines, and the quote covers them. You do not need to stock or set out a thing. Want a certain product used on a certain surface? A stone cleaner, a wood floor product, a fragrance-free line? Leave it out and tell us, and the team will use yours.

Can I ask a cleaning company to use fragrance-free products only?

Yes, and we are asked a lot. It is common in homes with asthma, migraines, babies or birds. Ask at quoting rather than on the day, so the right kit is loaded on the van. One point worth making: fragrance-free means no added scent. That is not the same thing as chemical-free.

Is it safe to be in the house while cleaners are working?

Most clients stay home during a standard clean with no trouble. We air rooms out as we work, we do not mix products, and we use disinfectants only where they are truly needed. If anyone in the house has asthma or a breathing condition, say so at quoting. We pick the products with that in mind before the team arrives.

What should I do with pets during a cleaning appointment?

Whatever keeps the pet calmest. Many dogs are fine loose. Some do better crated or behind a closed door. Cats mostly manage themselves. Tell us the plan first, so nobody opens a door on an escape artist. Crates and litter boxes are worked around, not moved, unless you ask us to.

Service areas

Which Columbus neighborhoods do cleaning companies usually cover?

Coverage changes over time, so check rather than guess. We work across Franklin County and out into the counties around it. That runs from German Village and Clintonville out to Dublin and Westerville. New Albany and Pickerington are in too. The full list is on areas we serve.

Do cleaners charge a travel fee outside the outerbelt?

A travel or access charge applies only when it is disclosed in the approved quote or agreement. A charge that was not disclosed is not added afterward. A home in Delaware or Canal Winchester is quoted through the same process as one closer in. Scheduling availability can differ by area, so ask about days when you book.

Can I get the same cleaning team if I move within the metro?

Tell us the new address as early as you can. Scheduling depends on availability, and a move can change the days that are open. The office confirms scheduling for the new address, and your home's notes move with your account.

After your clean

Can you walk on carpet right after it has been cleaned?

In clean socks or shoe covers, yes, and lightly. Damp fiber pulls in soil, so anything tracked on now sets into the carpet rather than sitting on top. Keep furniture off until it is dry. Keep pets off too if you can. Paw prints on damp carpet are the most common regret.

What should I do if I'm not happy with a cleaning?

Report an in-scope concern within 24 hours by phone, text, email or the customer portal. We will review the affected areas and arrange a reasonable re-clean at no additional charge. The re-clean applies only to work included in the agreed service scope. Photos help but are not required. We would far rather hear a complaint than read it in a review. A return visit costs us less than a lost client. Your home's notes get updated so the same miss does not repeat.

Can I add a tip to my card payment or invoice?

Yes. A tip can go on a card payment or straight to the team. Either way it goes to the cleaners, not to the office. Tipping is truly optional and nobody keeps score. If you would rather do something else, a review that names the team is worth more to them.

Hiring guides

Two guides go deeper than one answer can.

12 Questions to Ask Before Hiring a Cleaning Company is the full vetting script. It sets out the twelve questions worth asking any firm before you let a stranger into your home. It shows what a strong answer to each one sounds like. It shows how to verify insurance documentation and screening claims rather than take them on trust. And it weighs a lone cleaner against a firm. Read it before you contact anybody, us included.

Do You Tip House Cleaners? What's Normal in Columbus (Coming soon) takes on what people are too polite to ask out loud. Is a tip expected here? What changes for a one-time deep clean versus a regular visit? Do you tip an owner? How does a team of two split it? And what to do at the holidays instead.

Three nearby hubs answer what sits just outside hiring. How pricing works explains the eleven things behind a quote. The cleaning comparisons hub settles firm versus lone cleaner, app versus local, and deep versus move-out. The cleaning checklists library holds the scopes named all through this page. And the gallery shows the work itself.

A few more questions

Can I ask for a specific cleaner, or ask that someone not come back?

Yes to both, and you owe us no reason. If you ask that someone not come back, we take them off your home for good. If you ask for a particular cleaner, we honor it wherever the schedule allows. If something went wrong we would like to know, so it can be put right. But we act on the request either way, with no awkwardness on your side.

Do I have to tell cleaners about security cameras in my home?

You do not have to, but tell us anyway. It is polite, and it heads off an awkward moment. Indoor cameras are common now, and our teams work around them all the time. Cameras in a bathroom are a different matter. So are cameras in a bedroom while someone is working in it. We turn down those rooms.

What happens if the team can't get into my home on the scheduled day?

We call and text right away, and hold the slot for a short window before we move on. A lockout, cancellation or access charge applies only when it is disclosed in the approved quote or agreement. A charge that was not disclosed is not added afterward. A keypad code or lockbox avoids the problem entirely, which is why we suggest one over a key handover.

Is my house too dirty for a cleaning service?

No. Homes that have gone a long time without cleaning are scoped like any other job, and nothing about the condition is judged or talked about later. Describe the home honestly so it gets scoped right, and that is truly the end of it. Heavy clutter, hoarding or pest-related conditions may require office review and may be declined.

Are there jobs Rejuv Cleaning turns down?

We look at each one on its own. Biohazard remediation, active mold remediation and hazardous-material work are not ordinary cleaning. Heavy clutter, hoarding or pest-related conditions may require office review and may be declined, so talk it through with us rather than assume the answer is no. Some jobs need a specialist rather than a cleaner, and structural damage is one of those. When a job sits outside what we can do properly, we say so and point you to someone who can. We also turn down work we cannot do well in the time we have. Saying no early costs you far less than finding out on the day.

Question not here? Ask it with your quote. Just send your bedroom and bathroom count and roughly how long since the last clean. Or call and tell us. You'll have a written flat quote within one business day in most cases, once the office has enough property and scope information, with your answers included. Booking the visit is the next step, and we find a time that works for you and for the cleaning professional. Most residential homes do not require an in-person walkthrough, and there's no sales visit either way.
